Andy Ihnatko is a technology columnist for the Chicago Sun Times, MacWorld, host of the popular podcast MacBreak Weekly podcast, and all around sideburn wearing geek icon. He is also host of the Ihnatko Almanac, a podcast I have previously highlighted.
Episode 0000015 discusses Penn Jillette's recent book "God, No!: Signs You May Already Be an Atheist and Other Magical Tales." I won't even bother to discuss who's Penn Jillette. If you read this blog and do not know who is Penn, you are probably typed in the incorrect URL. I read "God. No!" over Thanksgiving on my iPad, and I must admit it was not quite what I was expecting. It was not in the same atheist general style of the other four horsemen New Atheist arthors. This is Penn. The book is a series of what could be stand alone essays on various topics and vignette's of Penn life. I enjoyed the book a great deal, although this is not a book a would give to Grandma.
Mr. Ihnatko's discussion of the book is equally as entertaining as the book itself. I do not think it is accurate to describe the episode as a review of "God, No!" It is a conversation about the book. Ihnatko's take on Penn's position on Atheism vs. Agnosticism is particularly interesting, and thought provoking. I do think he makes valid points in some flaws in Penn's argument against the agnostic position. Ihnatko questions Penn's other thoughts on religion some of which I agree, and some I do not. However the discussion is interesting in itself and I recommend this episode to skeptics in particular and the podcast itself for a good entertaining geeky weekly listen.
